Our sole focus is on Fast ForWord brain training programs, brought to you by Carnegie Learning, a subsidiary of Scientific Learning.
Just as athletes train their bodies to become stronger, you can train your brain to become smarter.
Welcome to Think Fast Learning LLC

Is your child struggling in school? Are you an adult who would like to improve your learning skills or maintain cognitive function?

It's Never too Late to Change your Brain

“Did you know your brain has the remarkable ability to rewire itself throughout your life? This phenomenon is known as “brain plasticity.”
A declining brain can be rejuvenated at any age by training. Adults can benefit from auditory processing, reading and memory programs just as much as children, as long as they are designed and administered in the right way.”

Dr. Michael Merzenich

What is Fast ForWord® ?

Fast ForWord is an English language/reading development program designed by leading cognitive neuroscientists, to target the root causes of learning and reading difficulties in the brain. These online programs help people worldwide to build, improve and maintain their cognitive skills including MEMORY, ATTENTION, PROCESSING and SEQUENCING (MAPS).

Memory

Strong long term and working memory helps us understand and retain information, build sound/letter correspondences and support fluency and comprehension. Fast ForWord exercises build phonological working memory by asking students to remember sounds long enough to identify and match them.

Attention

The ability to focus on specific information, sustain that focus, and ignore distractions while carrying out a task is essential to building strong literacy. Fast ForWord builds attention by requiring students to attend to directions, phonemes, and words or sentences in every task.

Processing

Processing skills allow us to integrate and make sense of auditory and/or visual information. Phonemic awareness, connecting letters to sounds, is critical for reading but some children struggle to perceive and process sounds.

Sequencing

Sequencing is the ability to track the order of things, such as the sounds in a word, the words in a sentence, the sentences in a paragraph, or the events in a story. All Fast ForWord exercises incorporate sequence practice, from understanding the order of directions, to building with sound parts in a sequence that create words. Learners practice accurately completing tasks in a desired order.

Carol Matthews Gillen

Dear Friends,

I’m Carol, a former teacher with 40 years of experience, a Martin County Teacher of the Year, and an author of three books on Florida’s history. During the editing process of my last book, “Cracker Horses and Cattle, Florida’s Heritage Breeds”, I struggled to focus. My eyes skipped words and even whole lines. I worried that I wouldn’t meet my deadline. Then, a conversation with a doctor changed everything. She told me about the Fast ForWord programs from Carnegie Learning – brain training exercises based on neuroscience research that improve memory, attention, processing speed, and sequencing skills. This doctor, who had struggled her whole life with dyslexia, was delighted with her progress using Fast ForWord and was now reading classics she had never read before, with ease. She recommended that I try it, and I did.

Within 5-6 weeks of using Fast ForWord, my ability to focus dramatically improved. I realized I probably had undiagnosed ADHD – something that has affected me for decades. (My nickname is Ricochet Rabbit.) I am happy to report that I met my deadline, published the book, and was so impressed after reading the research, I decided to become a certified Fast ForWord provider. Looking back over the years as a teacher, I wish I had known about Fast ForWord sooner. It could have helped countless students.

Another personal reason that I became a Fast ForWord provider is that three generations of women before me have slipped away into dementia later in life. Since cognitive function is the key to a vibrant and fulfilling life, I am committed to doing everything possible to protect myself, my three daughters, and three granddaughters from repeating their cycle. Dr. Michael Merzenich, who developed the Fast ForWord program, has been a vocal advocate for the idea that cognitive decline, including Alzheimer’s can be mitigated or even reversed through targeted brain training. I am very hopeful!

I am very excited to begin this journey of helping people improve their lives. So let’s press the Fast ForWord button and begin!

Warm Regards from your Fast ForWord provider and coach,

Carol Matthews Gillen
